FAQ
ENS (Entry Summary Declaration) is a security declaration that must be sent before goods enter the European Union or the United Kingdom.
It is an electronic declaration containing basic information about the shipment, sender, recipient, and type of goods. Customs authorities use it to analyze the risks associated with transport.
Depending on the type of transport, the declaration must be sent in advance.
In the case of road transport, the ENS must be submitted at least 2 hours before the planned arrival at the border.
Based on the data provided, the competent authorities may grant entry, refer the shipment for inspection or, in exceptional circumstances, refuse entry.

This system creates a collective declaration for a vehicle and generates a GMR (Goods Movement Reference) number.
The GMR number combines in one place:

transit declarations in which the UK is one of the transit countries.
The ELO envelope is a system used by French customs authorities to combine documents assigned to a single vehicle crossing the EU–UK border.
It works similarly to GMR — it allows vehicle data to be linked to the relevant customs declarations intended for European Union systems.
